Ciara is an American Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter. Her first album, Goodies, was released on September 28, 2004,[1] and three of its singles – "1, 2 Step", "Goodies", and "Oh" – reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100.[2] The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, with first week sales of over 100,000 copies. The album has also sold over three million copies in the United States,[3] and five million copies worldwide.[4]

Ciara's second album, Ciara: The Evolution, was released on December 5, 2006.[5] The album's single, "Get Up", reached the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100, while three other singles from the album – "Promise", "Like a Boy", and "Can't Leave 'em Alone" – broke the top ten on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.[2] The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart with first week sales of over 300,000 copies and was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America only five weeks after its release,[6][7]

Ciara's third studio album, Fantasy Ride, was released on May 5, 2009,[8] and it consists of the Billboard Hot 100 top ten hit also worldwide hit "Love Sex Magic", R&B/Hip-Hop top ten hit "Never Ever", and international single "Work". The album debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 chart, with over 81,000 copies sold in its first week. In the United States the album has sold 193,000 copies, and its worldwide sales stand at over 200,000 copies.[9]

Ciara's fourth studio album, Basic Instinct, will be released on December 10, 2010. The lead single titled "Ride", which features Ludacris was released in April 2010 and went on to become her twelfth top ten hit on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, which tied her with Beyoncé, with the most top ten hits by a female artist on that chart.[10]

The song "1, 2 Step" from the album Goodies has received numerous awards, including both "Best Performed Songs in the ASCAP Repertory" and "Most Performed Songs" from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, "Best Collaboration" from the BET Awards, and "Best Dance Cut" from the Soul Train Lady of Soul Music Awards, and "Choice Music R&B/Hip Hop Track" from the Teen Choice Awards. Ciara has received nine nominations from the BET Awards, but has only received one award. She has also received five nominations from the Grammy Awards, receiving one award for "Best Short-Form Music Video" for the song "Lose Control", a collaboration that she did with rapper Missy Elliott. Overall, Ciara has received 15 awards from 41 nominations.
